If you haven't been living under a rock for the last couple of weeks, you might have heard about Clubhouse.
What is it?
Clubhouse is a voice chat based social media platform. You can listen in to podcast-like conversations or chat with friends in private groups.
Have I missed out already?
Though the app has been around since May, it has only exploded in the last two weeks or so, you haven't missed out on much - yet.
As google trends for the keyword "clubhouse" shows, practically everyone who heard about it only did so in the last month or so.
It's meteoric rise was fueled by the real-life social interaction vacuum and celebrity endorsments, from Elon Musk to Oprah.

Part of clubhouse's appeal is that you cannot simply download and use it, you need an invite from a friend to get in.
If you don't have the right friends, you can still get on the waiting list and hope to be let in soon.
Their backend cannot support the tsunami of users wanting to get onboard, hence the current current version still being called a "closed beta".
Once you get in you can join "clubs", follow people, join conversations or start chatting with friends privately.
Two invites wait for you ready to be sent out to two phone numbers of your choosing.
Yes, you can buy clubhouse invites.
If you just cannot wait, you can buy an invite on ebay, craigslist or by googling for it. If you really need that invite, use an escrow or PayPal for buyer protection.
Is it the next big thing?
Probably the most important question is whether the clubhouse team can crack the influencer ecosystem or not. Social media platforms with active creators survive while the rest die. Active creators want ways to montetise. If creators cannot monetize, they won't stay and that will be the end of the platform (R.I.P. Vine)
